Just call me Janet.

You might as well. 95% of the patients at work do.

Seriously, 95% of the people I talk to on the phone call me "Janet" after I announce myself as "Jen at Dr. Walker's office."

I'm sorry but, "This is Janet Dr. Walker's office?" That just doesn't make sense.

No matter how hard I try to enunciate it doesn't make one bit of difference. At this point, everyone in the office knows who they're referring to when they ask for "Janet." We don't even try to correct them anymore. It has become easier for me just to assume a new name.

We the American people have some serious deficiencies in the listening skills department.

if you can't change people you'll have to change your vocab to something like: this is Jen with Dr. Walkers office OR this is Jen calling from Dr. Walkers office etc.

My phone answering days were similar. "This is Allie, how can I help you?" was constantly translated somehow as, "This is Sally." I hate the name Sally but I just got used to it after a while cause it was a little awkward to make a giant pause after "this is."

Ok so this is just too funny! You don't know me... but I'm Whitney's mom.

Anyway, this guard at the bank where I work calls me Jennifer every day. He's been saying "Hi Jennifer" for months! And at this point it would just be too awkward to try to correct him.

My name is Jannet... Heh
